Not all doors are meant to be opened . . .
Caspian Verne is destined for greatness: to join the powerful worlds-walking scholars and fulfil his grandmother’s ambitions. It’s also a destiny he’s determined to get out of. Instead, he’s been secretly pursuing a quest that could upend his grandmother’s machinations for good. For there is an astral said to grant a powerful favour to those willing to pay the price. The only problem is that the god is missing: a myth of myths. And without the ability to walk between worlds, he’ll never be able to escape the long shadow of his family’s crushing power.
When a ritual to track down the missing astral goes terribly awry, Caspian finds himself at the mercy of Mira, who has nothing to do with the scholars and yet possesses a worlds-walking gift of her own. Desperate, he makes a bargain he has no intention of keeping: together, they will find the astral and split the favour between them.
As Caspian and Mira hunt the missing astral across worlds, they discover that not all doors are meant to be opened. For his grandmother has made a bargain of her own at terrible cost. And something dark is stalking the scholars . . .
